How to Select a Church

We know that one church cannot or will not meet the needs or desires of every person. Not everyone for example will feel comfortable at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. However, there are a few basics that you should look for in any church that you are considering. Here are some questions which you should ask in selecting a home church wherever it may be.

1. Does it preach and teach the Bible?
Any true church must hold to the authority and truthfulness of the Bible. The Bible is God's revelation of Himself and must be the basis of everything which happens in a church.

2. Do I feel comfortable with its style of worship?
Style of worship is a personal preference question. Different congregations worship in various ways and often times it may be helpful for us to step out of our comfort zone. Ultimately however, you need to be comfortable overall about the style of worship in your church if you are going to participate in that worship.

3. Can I learn what it means to be a Christian and live like it here?
Are opportunities given to make an informed decision about a relationship with Jesus Christ and how you can grow in your relationship with Him? Can I serve the Lord in some way here?

4. Does it meet the needs of my family?
Are my children well cared for while I am in services or meetings? Can I see ways my whole family can fit into the ministry of this church?

5. Am I able to build some key relationships in this church?
One of the keys to growing as a person in our walk with Christ is close interaction with others. Are there opportunities to build some close relationships with other Christ-like people in this church?

"We exist to reach people at their level of spiritual interest and maturity and lead them to become fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ."
